Charles Dharapak was named 2012 Still Photographer of the Year by the White House News Photographers Association in its annual contest. He covered war, conflict and the rise of Muslim extremism overseas before moving to Washington in 2003 to chronicle the White House and national politics. He has covered the administrations of Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
